One of the places to see while visiting Carmel is Nielsen Bros. Market's, a landmark of Carmel since 1930, mural commissioned in 1980 by the original Nielsen family.  Created by Carole Minou and the well-known cartoonist of the area, Bill Bates, this mural is a depiction of the downtown of Carmel as a map; however, with cartoons exemplifying Carmel's history and famous sites to see.

Nielsen Bros. Market introduces Laura Germain representing SoloCoco on the West Coast at Nielsen's. SoloCoco is from the Dominican Republic and is an organic, raw and unrefined oil. Nielsen's hosts "Run in the Name of Love" informative event!




Nielsen's is hosting an information session on Friday, May 27, 2016 from 4:30pm to 6pm. This event is for the non-profit organization "Run in the Name of Love." This is an annual local event in Carmel by the Sea it is a 5K run and 2K walk (pet friendly). The event was originated in Charlottesville, though, when the organizers moved to the West Coast it became local in Carmel. In memory of her son who died in a skiing accident while a student at University of Virginia, Susan Love organized this vision for kids to "Just Run," to dedicate a 5K for someone you love, and must not forget this is all in conjunction with Father's Day.

Nielsen's Poire-Prisonniere a pear that is planted in a bottle and bloomed while anchoring the Poire Williams product of France after-dinner drink.  This was for the King of Sweden.

98 points and 'Top 100 Spirits 2015,' Wine Enthusiast: " Juicy and mouthwatering, with lots of bold fruit on the palate plus a subtle flick of vanilla, this Williams pear brandy would make a lovely dessert accompaniment or after-dinner sip. Gift-worthy presentation includes a pear-shaped bottle with a whole pear imprisoned inside. Alcohol 40%. (Oct 2015)"

One of the most delicious and fragrant brandies made from Alsace’s abundant supply of fruit is that of the Williams Pear, Eau-de-vie de poire Williams. It is made by fermenting crushed ripe fruit for up to six weeks, and then distilling it to a relatively low strength which preserves its distinctive bouquet. It is then allowed to age. Believe it or not, empty bottles are hung on trees or bushes, and the young fruit bud is then made to grow inside each bottle. Williams Pear brandy is perfect finale to meal. It should be served well-chilled or on ice, to develop its delicious long-lasting bouquet. Mixes also well with tonic, soda and vermouth. History of Carmel's Landmark

In 2009 co-owners and husband and wife team Azniv and Tigran Amirkhanian purchased Nielsen Bros .Market & Deli from the original owners. Since then the team has turned around the business; kept the original name; and has won accolades and is still going on strong.

Nielsen's was established in 1930 and has since been considered a landmark of Carmel by the Sea.  The original owners the Nielsen Brothers, Harold and Walter were of Danish descent.  They outdid the competitors during the building of Nielsen's as the specialty food and wine market.  Home delivery was implemented by the brothers and is still in effect today.  It is not unusual for customers to have shopped at Nielsen's since their childhood; and visitors from around the world always find their way back to this quintessential market while frequenting the West Coast.
