History of Carmel's Landmark

In 2009 co-owners and husband and wife team Azniv and Tigran Amirkhanian purchased Nielsen Bros .Market & Deli from the original owners. Since then the team has turned around the business; kept the original name; and has won accolades and is still going on strong.

Nielsen's was established in 1930 and has since been considered a landmark of Carmel by the Sea.  The original owners the Nielsen Brothers, Harold and Walter were of Danish descent.  They outdid the competitors during the building of Nielsen's as the specialty food and wine market.  Home delivery was implemented by the brothers and is still in effect today.  It is not unusual for customers to have shopped at Nielsen's since their childhood; and visitors from around the world always find their way back to this quintessential market while frequenting the West Coast.     

Nielsen's has an award-winning wine cellar; fresh, local, organic produce, a full-service deli with grass-fed beef, Boar's Head deli meats, artisanal cheeses, and a grand array of salads for all preferences.  Nielsen's has been labeled as the Non-supermarket.  We carry groceries, epicurean delights and hard-to-find ingredients.  Almost 365 days a year-weather permitting- a full-service outdoor grill with a seating patio is offered daily.
